ActiveGroove (AG) is a club under the family of ActiveSG academies and clubs to promote and encourage participation in street dancing. With the official inclusion of breakdancing under the name of “Breaking” in the Olympic Games, AG seeks to bring greater awareness to the sport and create more opportunities for our local street dancers to practise, perform and compete.

Initiatives include the organisation of the Lion City Dance Convention (with an inaugural version held in November 2021), and the opening of dance zones within ActiveSG Sport Centers for dancers to practise and forge stronger connections with fellow dance enthusiasts. AG will also partner other dance academies/clubs to bring quality programmes to our children and youth at the Sport Centres, enabling the community to live better through sport.

Lion City Dance Convention

Lion City Dance Convention (LCDC) is a street dance event organised by YouthCreates and Active Groove which are part of the ActiveSG’s Academies and Clubs’ portfolio. ActiveSG hopes to build and support a vibrant street dance community, through platforms such as this event for dancers to compete.

The team aims to support the street dance community by providing learning and competition opportunities with renowned dance studios in Singapore to widen the participation base.

This event is part of GetActive! Singapore to inspire Singaporeans both young and old to get up and get moving! From dance battles to fitness workouts and street games, there’s something for just about everyone to Play On and Play Together!

With the official announcement by the international olympics committee for the inclusion of Breaking into the games, Active Groove aims to develop programmes and competitions for the street dancers to expand their skills and advance to a higher level.

According to the current SMM rules, participants in batches will be given an allocated time to come down for the audition and final (top 16 winners) days. The reporting time will be sent to all participants via email on the 24th of October. * Allocated time includes warm up time on the day of auditions and finals performances.

Breaking 101 at Bishan Club House is an 8-week programme that aims to guide fresh new individuals between 8 to 40 years old who are looking for a sense of what breaking is all about and is best suited for participants with zero to no breaking experience. Through this course, participants would be able to understand body weight shifting better by applying breaking fundamentals and basic grooves to kickstart their dance journey. Additionally, participants will be taught to explore different realms of breaking, such as top rocks, footwork, and freezes. The goal is for participants to be confident, comfortable and be able to express themselves through breaking.

Do I have to show my vaccination status?

VACCINATED participants will be required to produce proof of vaccination at the point of registration at the auditions and the finals. Please note that there will be no refunds if the participants do not meet the criteria.

What if I am unvaccinated?

UNVACCINATED participants must provide a valid Pre-Event Testing (PET) result from any MOH-approved medical service provider at the point of registration at the auditions and finals. Unvaccinated participants who managed to enter the top 16 finals will have to take another ART test. Please note that there will be no refunds if the participants do not meet the criteria.

What counts as fully vaccinated?

An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after he or she has received two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnarty, Moderna or any WHO EUL vaccines.

WHAT IS SPOT AND STEP?

Spot and Step is an activity which improves your sensorimotor skills and cognition. This activity is suitable for all generations as it:

Develops children's fundamental movement skills
Improves adults' agility and coordination skills
Improves balance and reduces fall-related injuries in seniors

HOW TO PERFORM THE SPOT AND STEP?

1. Two players to start. 1st player to think of a pattern and move from 'START' to 'END'

Start with a 5-step pattern
Avoid jumping or hopping
Each step should not be more than 2 squares apart

2. Subsequent players to memorise and repeat
the pattern.
3. Up the challenge by increasing the number
of steps.

How and where to book the dance zone?

ActiveSG App

Step 1: Where to book?
- Download ActiveSG App (Available both on Android or Apple)
- New users have to sign up/register an account with ActiveSG
- Existing users to log into the app

Step 2: Selection of Dance Zone
- Under facilities, search for: ActiveGroove Dance Zone
- Select preferred dance zone
- Add to to cart after selecting date and time

Step 3: Payment
- The app will have a prompt message to make payment
- Click PayNow and it should reflect $0.00
- Click on proceed to pay, followed by PayNow [No payment will be charged]
- Users will have to key in the 6-digit eWallet Pin to complete the booking
- A receipt will be sent to the registered email

Note:
- There will be an entrance fee for Dance Zone located within ActiveSG swimming complexes.

Are dance users allowed to use the swimming pools if the dance zone is located within a swimming complex?

Dance users are allowed to utilise the pool with a swimming slot booking and proper attire.

What to do if users can't make it for the dance slot?

Please write in to activegroove_club@sport.gov.sg for the cancellation of dance slot. This will help ActiveGroove to free the time slot to enable ActiveGroove to free up the slots for other users

Safe Management Measures at Active Health Labs Following Mid Point Review of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert)

Following the announcement by Multi-Ministry Taskforce on 6 August 2021, the following measures will take effect at all Active Health Labs.

Vaccination-Differentiated SMMs for high-risk settings

Definition of Fully Vaccinated Individuals: As fully vaccinated individuals have better protection against infection and severe illness, they may participate in activities in high-risk settings.

An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after he or she has received two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech/ Comirnaty, Moderna, or any WHO EUL vaccines.
Unvaccinated individuals with a valid negative result on a Pre-Event Test taken in the past 24 hours at an MOH-approved medical service provider before the expected end of the class/programme/event or,
Recovered COVID-19 individuals, are of similarly lower risk, and may also join in the group of fully vaccinated individuals.

For children aged 12 years old and below (i.e. born in and after 2009), they will be allowed to participate in indoors unmasked activities, in ONE group of not more than 5 participants, where all children aged 12 years and below are of the same household. There can be no multiple groups of 5 participants in an organised class/programme in this situation.
