Following the success of the Republic's hosting of the first-ever Singapore International Rhythmic Gymnastics Cup (SIRGC) at the OCBC Arena last December, the Lion City will next host the 2023 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships (AAGC). Taking place from 10-18 June at the OCBC Arena, the 9-day extravaganza will be organised by national governing body Singapore Gymnastics, following the support and approval from the Asian Gymnastic Union.
The upcoming AAGC will feature the region’s best, including gymnasts from powerhouses China, Japan and Korea. Athletes aiming to earn their spots at the Paris 2024 Olympics, will first have to qualify for the World Championships in Belgium via this continental event.
In addition to cheering on our Team Singapore athletes, local fans can also look out for the Asian stars such as, China’s women's world champion on the Uneven Bars Wei Xiaoyuan and beam champion, Hazuki Watanabe of Japan. In the men's competition, China and Japan placed first and second in the Men's Team event at the last World Championships in Liverpool. And Japan's Daiki Hashimoto also won the Men's Individual All-around.
Singapore Gymnastics President Dr. Patrick Liew said, “Hosting the Asian Championships is a crucial step towards our goal of establishing Singapore as a premier hub for gymnastics. Having some of the world's elite gymnasts competing on our soil will inspire and motivate our local gymnasts and aspiring athletes. We anticipate a thrilling event featuring top-level performances and we encourage not only our gymnastics community but all sports enthusiasts to come out and experience it,” highlighted Dr Liew.

The backing of Sport Singapore was critical in securing hosting rights. “Staging the Asian Championships in Singapore echoes our aspirations to bring international sporting events to the community. With the support from industry partners, we are confident to present a memorable experience for all participants. We hope that an event of this scale will help our Team Singapore gymnasts gain valuable competition experience, uplift the profile of the sport locally, and inspire more young talents to pursue the sport at the elite-level.,” said Roy Teo, Chief of Industry Development, Technology & Innovation from SportSG.
The full list of star gymnasts and ticketing details for the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships, will be announced prior to the start of online sales in April.
