Siglap Basketball Club’s Shayan and Teo Yung Juen, both 17, were the eventual champions in the Boys’ category, defeating their opponents, SBPHK Hornets Black, 14 to 7.

Over in the Girls category, Hillcrest Grays A’s Engie Low, 17, and Dawn Wan, 15, emerged triumphant after beating SG Basketball White (5-3).

This tournament showed us that there can be new and safe ways to play sports amidst the on-going pandemic.

Common iterations of basketball as we all know usually comprise a full court game (5v5) or a half court (3v3) but these are not allowed at the moment due to the safe management measures put in place to protect our health and wellbeing. However, the 2v2 basketball tournament has showed that it is still possible to play and enjoy our favourite team sports with some slight adjustments and creativity.

Sport Singapore recently launched the Bring Sport Back campaign, which seeks to remind everyone to adhere to the safe management measures when playing sports.

As we gradually return to our favourite sporting activities, the priority is to ensure that everyone does so in a safe manner that does not endanger public health.

Together as a team, we can enjoy playing and spectating the sports we love by doing our part and keeping to the safe management measures.

So remember, Play, but don’t Sabo (deliberately cause trouble or inconvenience to someone).

Do you have an idea on a new style of play that is in line with the current safe management measures? Share your idea with us!
