27 May 2022 – Singapore are determined to secure their spot in the Men’s World Floorball Championships 2022, with their first step of this journey starting at the Men’s World Floorball Championship Qualification AOFC (Men’s WFCQ-AOFC) from 31 May to 4 June.

8 teams from the Asia Oceania region – world No. 16 Singapore, Australia (#13), SEA Games champions Thailand (#14), Japan (#15), South Korea (#21), the Philippines (#24), New Zealand (#27) and Malaysia (#29) – will compete at the OCBC Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub next week. The top four teams will seal their place in the Men’s World Floorball Championship 2022, which will be held in Switzerland in November. Singapore have made regular appearances in the Men’s World Floorball Championship, featuring in five of the last six editions of the biennial tournament. At last year’s World Championships in Finland, Singapore finished 16th. The Men’s WFCQ-AOFC 2022 marks the first return of competition in the region since 2019, with the Men’s WFCQ-AOFC 2020 Qualifiers cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Singapore vice-captain Kumaresa Pasupathy said: “We’ve been training hard on and off the court for the Men’s WFCQ-AOFC next week. The team has learnt valuable lessons from our last outing at the World Championship and we’ve been working together to improve our weaknesses while consolidating our strengths. This qualifying event is our chance to show everyone what we can do. Beyond qualifying for the World Championships again, we’re also looking forward to be competing on home ground again. The last major men’s floorball event Singapore has hosted was the SEA Games in 2015, so this is exciting for both our players and the spectators. Some of our team-mates will be playing an event of this stature on home soil for the first time, while sports fans and the floorball community in Singapore can also enjoy some live floorball action again. We hope to give our supporters something to celebrate at the OCBC Arena.”

The Men’s WFCQ-AOFC is part of the inaugural Singapore Floorball Series, which was launched as a platform that aims to regularly bring top floorball action to the community. In this year’s Series, the Men’s WFCQ-AOFC takes place following the Women’s AOFC Cup, which is ongoing till 28 May. The Singapore Floorball Series is organised by sports agency Kin Productions Pte Ltd and hosted by the Singapore Floorball Association, with the support of Sport Singapore.
