Wushu?s history can be traced back to as early as the Bronze Age when the development of techniques to defend oneself against wild animals and other humans. The use of weapons eventually arose to form the roots of wushu?s weapon-based techniques, as well as the competition in strength and technique. The early Chinese form of wrestling called ?jiaodi? was one such early contest of technique which led on to the furthering of bare-hand combat practices.
